Here’s a photo taken of the Harris Orchard float in the 1950 Apple Fest parade.
You may use the picture for whatever you wish. I have also attached a copy.
The photo was taken by parents, Gene & Alvina Klug who were residents of
La Crescent from 1944 until their deaths in 1968 & 2004. We became friends
with the Harris family about 1948 when they set up a stand in our front yard
to sell apples. We lived in the house directly facing the highway from La Crosse.
That young man facing the camera is me along with my brother & sister. I don’t
know who the couple standing are. I do know they were members of Prince of
Peace church.  The book on the table is the Harris’ family Bible.
As a teenager in 1960 & 61, I worked for Lyle Harris part-time in the orchard
picking & sorting apples. I’ll be back for the Apple Fest again this year to help
you all celebrate.
See you all next month!
